Cleaning can be quite a chore, for all of us. But imagine if you had forgotten how to start cleaning. It can be a challenge to encourage a loved one with dementia to clean, but if you start first you may well find they want to join in. If you hand them a cloth they may watch you for a while and then join in. Remember plenty of praise, as low self-esteem and confidence are frequent feelings for those with dementia. And it’s always nice to be told what a good job you’re doing.
Remember these rules for cleaning to ensure the area is as hygienic as possible:

–          Use different cloths for different areas

–          Wash tea towels on a hot cycle

–          Use hot water and disinfectant to clean worktops

–          Keep kitchen free from clutter as could become unstable and fall, hides bacteria and attracts pests
