Benefits?!

Hey guys. So here’s a rant. I’ve just looked into carer’s allowance to see if I can get a bit of monetary help, and get out a bit. I found out I could indeed get some money. I have blanked out name’s etc etc

I understand that if I am paid Carer’s Allowance it may affect the benefits paid to ???????

If the person you are caring for receives certain benefits, the amount they receive may be affected by your claim for Carer’s Allowance. Because of this we need both of you to understand the potential consequences of your claim to Carer’s Allowance.

If ??????? gets a Severe Disability Premium with their income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Housing Benefit, they may no longer get that premium if we pay Carer’s Allowance to you.

If ????????s Pension Credit includes an extra amount for severe disability, they may no longer get that extra amount if we pay Carer’s Allowance to you.

This could also affect any reduction in Council Tax ??????????? may be entitled to. To find out more about it, please contact the Local Authority.

We will need to check ??????????? entitlement to Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Constant Attendance Allowance or Armed Forces Independence Payment when considering your claim.

We may contact ??????????????? or their representative to establish whether 35 hours caring per week is taking place.

So what you’re telling me is that despite nan already losing some of her benefits when  I moved in, because she was no longer classed as severely disabled, that if I ask for money she will lose even more?! HOW IS THAT EVEN FAIR OR RIGHT?!?!

  1. Mum gets the higher rate of Attendance Allowance, and I get Carers Allowance and Income Support – none of Mum’s benefits (pensions) have been affected. Only one way to find out for sure though 🙂

  2. You are worth a King’s ransom if you ask me. What you do is beneficial to your Nan AND beneficial to the area in which you live because your caring for your Nan eliminates the need for agencies to get involved in hands-on care.

  3. This is exactly what angers me regarding the bloody government and the G8… Yes it was and is needed to wake the powers that be up to the real world and all that’s going on around them…yes research is vital if we are to ever find a cure and yes it will of course cost far more than we would like… BUT…. What about the Carers now.. Here today tomorrow and 24/7…who are struggling beyond belief to just survive and have some form of life other than caring… Who save this government untold amounts of money by caring unpaid from home and 90% of the time feel lost lonely isolated useless helpless and afraid….let Mr Cameron care for a family member … Without a wage and without his huge team of supporters… Then what would he do I wonder?..Angry head on this Merry Man/woman lol

    • Yep, agree completely. It was a great step but carers in the now are really struggling! What of them? Honestly, I could rant so long about the injustices of welfare!!! xx
